Arye took painting classes for over a year at the Dougherty Arts Center in Austin, Texas, from the male model in this painting. Arye recalls him asking, “What does the painting need?” And Arye laughs over one of his teacher’s memorable quotes:  “Never let reality stand in the way of a good painting.”
